The folks from 1st growth Bordeaux Chateau Lafite Rothschild oversee all elements of production of the Los Vascos wines. This blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Carménère, 5% Syrah and 5% Malbec is estate grown and bottled. Made from up to 80-year-old fruit, after a careful ferment it is aged for 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels. It has great structure and fine dusty tannins to go with the strong Chilean fruit - ripe cherry, pomegranate & prunes - which is dark and savory but not over extracted or sweet. The 2014 is more structured and powerful than the 2013. The first-class Lafite oak comes through nicely with some smooth cedar and vanilla overtones and those fine tannins. Elegant, balanced and strong, this wine has the best of both worlds.
