There are a handful of Australians making quite a splash with their wine making skills in Burgundy and Mark Haisma is without question one of those. Mark has established himself such a skillful and talented winemaker that he has garnered the favor of many Burgundians, ones with some spectacular vineyards, so he is given access to some truly top quality fruit. 2015 was a remarkable vintage in Burgundy. Deep and luscious fruit with amazing texture and weight but sadly, it was a extremely short vintage so there was way less of that gorgeous fruit to purchase. This village level Volnay is simply stunning. Deep black cherry fruit with some smoky, meaty notes. The perfume here is intoxicating, so beguiling you have a hard time removing your nose from the glass long enough to taste it. Ah, but when you do, divine. Light, airy, lacy and seamless in texture. Drinking lovely now but has the stuffing to hold on for a few years in the cellar. We acquired one case and a couple magnums too!
