Mary Taylor 2016 Buzet Rouge, Southwest France
Buzet is a region just north of Bordeaux and though we don’t see much of it here, it received it’s A.O.C. in 1973. Cabernet and Merlot shine in this region and once again Mary has discovered a vigneron producing high quality, traditional wines, sustainably, at a beyond fair price. Equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there is generous dark fruit, notes of earth and dried tobacco with a firm but silky bit of tannin on the finish. No oak is used which keeps the wine nice and fresh and the lack of spice and vanilla make this wine even more food friendly. Steak wine anyone?
