Quiet zippy for a Spatlese Riesling. Orange zest, apricot and honeydew all add layers and richness to the wine. Bright minerality on the back balances out the sweetness. so while it is sweet, it is well developed into the other flavor characteristics.
2015 is a vintage that will be amazing after a few years of resting. Monchhof Spatlese from the Urzig Wurzgarten vineyard is proof of that. A great pop of orange zest greets the palate and leaves your taste buds wanting for more. Fresh apricot and honeydew balances the acidity almost perfectly so that while it coats the mouth, it is still fresh. In a year or two, when the acidity calms down, those apricot and honeydew flavors will become more expressive and the sweetness will round it out nicely.
