Bodegas Muga is located in the historic railway station (Barrio de la Estacion) in Haro. The winery is over two centuries old. While continuing their history of historical practices, the Mugas have demonstrated their willingness to experiment and adopt modern techniques. Due to their locations, the vineyards experience Atlantic, Mediterranean, and continental climatic influences as well as influences from high altitude, some vineyards at the highest in La Rioja. Soils are predominantly chalky clays.

The 2011 Torre Muga is 70% Tempranillo with the rest Graciano and Mazuelo. It is fermented in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, and no temperature controls. It is full bodied, structured, and powerful, spending 24 months in oak barrels, of which 18 are spent in new French oak casks.

On the nose, ripe black fruits, black pepper, rosemary, smoke, graphite, earth and a balsamic note. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, structured and powerful, with elegant tannins. Acidity keeps this wine fresh despite its power. Pair with roasted meats, game, roasted vegetables, cured meats, olive dishes.
