Nisia 2017 Verdejo Old Vines Rueda, Spain
This is a 100% Verdejo wine grown on poor, sandy soils in the Rueda wine region of western Spain. Verdejo is Spain's most popular white varietal and is native to the Rueda wine region located in the province of Castilla y Leon. Nisia's small, 50-acre vineyard produces crisp, dry Verdejo wines with 60% aged for 8-months on its lees in 500-600-liter casks and 40% in stainless steel tanks.
Very aromatic and flavorful of citrus, poached pears, white peach, apricots with hints of marmalade, honey, and oak. Crisp and fresh, with a long and floral finish. Unlike most wines, Verdejo works well with asparagus, artichokes, and vinaigrettes, raw onions and sauces. Pair with grilled or fried fish, octopus, guacamole, tacos, Asia noodle salads, feta or pecorino cheeses.
