Pinotage, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is South Africa's national red grape. This is a bright, clean and chrystaline pure version. It has that unique bright berry with a hint of smokiness that Pinotage should have, but with a core of purity that is quite appealing. There is good extraction and very good acidity, so this wine finishes bright and clean. Remarkably, even though this is not a heavy wine it has wonderful depth and texture. This would pair beautifully with sausages, beef or lamb. A big hit at a recent tasting, particularly among folks who had never tried a Pinotage before.
