Michael Paxton is a pioneer of biodynamic farming principles in the McLaren Vale. These strict organic practices preserve all the location-specific qualities in the vines - some dating to 1890 - and this supple and pure wine validates the meticulous work required to be certified biodynamic. A lifted and bright red berry/black cherry nose with a delightful floral overlay leads to spicy and supple dark fruit in the mouth. It has a meaty quality and perfect balance between acidity and tannins. It sees 50% French and 50% American oak barrels, 15% new, for 11 months and this oak shows up beautifully on the long finish. The texture is remarkable for a wine at this price point and while you get that strong and savory McLaren Vale Shiraz fruit, this medium-bodied wine has more restraint and "class" than many. A real find.
