Peninsula Vinicultores Vino De Montana 2018 Garnacha Natural Wine, Spain
A blend of native Spanish grapes Grenache, Rufete and Pinuela all coming from vines growing at elevations of 2,500-3,000 feet and are 60-90 years old. An advantage of getting grapes from these old high elevated vines is the wine is guaranteed to have structure. In fact, that is the first thing I noticed when tasting this wine, the mild tannic structure shapes the wine from the beginning. Notes of dark cherries and savory herbal characteristics (sage and rosemary) balance each other nicely. There is a hint of chocolate covered dark cherries before the flavor profile becomes savory again on the finish.
