Review Penville 2016 Grenache Ballard Canyon, Santa Ynez Valley
Penville 2016 Grenache Ballard Canyon, Santa Ynez Valley

Fluttery floral notes on the nose with back notes of cherry and raspberry. The palate has the fruit drive into a grippy tannic finish with balanced acidity and minerality. The wine is very driven with tons of longevity.
Description
“When we first had the idea to start making wine this is the wine we wanted to make. This Grenache represents us and what we like to drink. We also hope that we have done a good job letting the quality of fruit from Stolpman Vineyard in the Ballard Canyon AVA of Santa Ynez, CA shine through. The juice was fermented partial whole cluster (30%) using only native yeast in open top vessels then divided between a 476 gallon cement egg, a 1200L Muid, and a 500L French oak puncheon for twelve months of ageing. After those twelve months we blended all the wine together and then transferred to neutral 500L puncheon for an additional eight months.“ -Patton
