Pierre Gimonnet "Special Club" 2014 Champagne Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay
Special Club is the highest form of classification any grower Champagne can receive. Only 28 artisan wine makers/wineries have been accepted into Special Club and only after passing a set of unrelenting quality standards. A committee evaluates the wines each vintage year, (Special Club bottlings are ONLY made in exceptional vintages) and only the very cream of the crop are selected to put their wines in the Special Club bottle. The 2014 From Pierre Gimonnet is made from 100% Chardonnay from several Grand Cru villages. This very special and rare wine has a big structure, big enough to spend some time in a cellar if one can wait to devour it. Linear in its focus, laser sharp and bursting with dried pears, white blooming flowers, citrus curd and buttery crust. Long and racy on the palate this is a wine for savor snacks, stay away from the sweets/fruit/chocolate as it will simply highlight the tart citrus flavors. You want nuts, potato chips, popcorn, fried chicken, or shrimp...think crunchy and salty as the best way to bring out all the layers and complexity in the Champagne.
