Perhaps the greatest secret in all of Germany is this under-the-radar bottling from Piesport vintner Reinhold Haart, a wonderful parcel which vintage after vintage produces opulent Rieslings that are so delicious, you wonder why more people haven't scooped them up. Across the Mosel from Piesport, past a bend in the river, is the village of Wintrich and its incredible Ohligsberg vineyard, where the Haarts produce a small amount of extremely generous wine which they pick at Spätlese level. The 2016 is an apt successor to the delicious 2015 (and the 2005, which blew away all tasters at a recent tasting, and looked not a day older than a young wine), and at this early age remains sweet and generous and concentrated with Riesling flavors, bolstered by its firm structure and lively acidity for freshness. Buy some to drink now, and as many bottles as you can afford to drink over the next 10 or 15 years. If you choose to drink it now you'll find it firm, lively, sweet, ample. Stunning, as always.
