Roland Lavantureux 2022 Chablis Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy

“Wow. You can feel the old vines at play here, just in the texture alone” were my notes after tasting this gorgeous Chablis. Those old vines struggle to get moisture and while they produce less fruit, the fruit they do give is often weightier, fuller in the mouth and with a longer finish, and that is very true of this wine. Plenty of tart apple skin and doughy notes, along with a blast of fresh minerals but it is the amplitude and mouth-filling texture that is the star here.
