I was lucky enough to spend some time in Burgundy this year and I have some good and not so good news to share. The good news, well very good news, is that the 2014s are stunningly gorgeous wines. Classic, elegant, pure. The bad news, there is very, very little wine to get. Weather once again gave and took away from our beloved Burgundy, dammit. So grab what you when you can folks. This Pommard from Roux Pere et Fils is showing brilliant concentration and saturation. Layers of ripe black cherries, pipe tobacco, smoked ham and roses. Light in color but don’t let that fool you, this wine is packing. I couldn’t believe how much density and purity it was showing so early on but there is an upside to that too, we don’t have to wait!
