I was lucky enough to meet the irrepressible German transplant Kai Schubert in his beautiful Martinborough winery and his wines knocked my socks off. A beautiful example of New Zealand Pinot Noir, it has an amazing combination of big, powerful, spicy dark cherry fruit with bright acidity, nice minerality and a long, sweet and savory finish. The hand-picked fruit has beautifully extracted, intense and pure fruit flavors that sensuously coat the palate and infuse the powerful and spicy nose. It sees 16 months in 50% new & 50% used French barriques. If you like big and intense Pinot Noir, you have to give this wine a chance. This vintage got huge scores from the critics.
