Sottimano 2015 Barbaresco Cotta, Piedmont, Italy
Rino Sottimano and his son Andrea produce wines of excellent quality from 13 hectares of vineyards in the Barbaresco crus of Cotta, Curra, Fausoni, Pajore, and Basarin in the townships of Treiso and Neive. These wines are elegant, expressive, yet both substantial and subtle. There is minimal intervention - indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtering and only organic fertilizers used. Fermentation is in oak of which about 30% is new. The Barbaresco Cotta is 100% Nebbiolo from 50-70 year old vines. The wines stay in custom French oak barrels for 2 years - 15% of which is new - with half of that period on its lees.
Expressive with roses, tar and fennel, this wine is full of black and red fruits with subtle hints of mint - the Cotta is the most fruit driven of Sottimano's Barbarescos.
