Bought from the Ferreira family by the Symington family in 1989, this massive vineyard provides a lot of fruit for Symington projects, not the least of which is the dry wine Pombal do Vesuvio. The decision was made at the outset to heed traditional winemaking in strictly limited amounts for the vintage ports made here. Thus, every bottle has used the finest fruit, foot-trodden to eliminate any bitterness from the seeds and stems, and the total annual production is just 6,000 six-packs. Usually a massive wine, this vintage Quinta do Vesuvio has a more feminine character by comparison with its neighbors. Darkly colored, with a gorgeous floral aroma, the wine is beautifully structured, statuesque, and fresher tasting than expected. Delicious.
