Verzier 2016 Saint-Joseph "Embreinte" Rhone Valley
The Verzier family have been grape growers in northern Rhone since 1898 but it took a young Philippe Verzier to begin bottling the domaines wines rather than selling it off to the loal coop. Philippe was called back home at 19 years old after his father abruptly passed away, he knew that the future for their winery was to establish a name for themselves, not selling off their hard work. The vines have been farmed organically since the 1960s but it was Philippe that sought out getting certification, which they received in 2010. One look at the dark inky liquid in the glass and you can tell, we are dealing with healthy, well cared for Syrah vines here. Dark purple, laded with black pepper and bursting lilac. Blue and black fruited with a playful lift of stabilizing acidity. Remarkably fresh for a wine this extracted.
