Trittenheim's imposing Apotheke vineyard (pronounced "Ah-poe-TAKE-ah, meaning apothecary) was named after its curative powers. The legend has it that a very ill nobleman drank wine from this vineyard and experienced a miraculous recovery. All I know is whenever I drink it, my mood has a miraculous recovery. This generous, sweet Riesling was the surprise hit of our German wine dinner at Thai District restaurant, especially for its ability to shine with a trio of duck, pork and chicken despite the hot chili challenge. We're pleased to still be able to purchase it, and at a recent tasting revealed creamy honeyed notes. Good wine with a lot going on, especially for the modest price.
