Andre Heucq Champage "Nature Terroir Heritage Assemblage"
I stumbled across this tiny grower Champagne while on a recent vacation to Charleston. I spied a Champagne at a wine bar that I didn’t know, so of course this nerd had to give it a go. It was the Brut Rose that they had at the wine bar we were visiting, and I was blown away at the quality and texture. I wasn’t home a week before the importer called me, he heard that I was tasting the Heucq while I was on vacation, (still wondering how he heard!) and would I be interested in tasting through the whole lineup. Obviously, my answer was, “Yes!” The Rose was not available when I placed my first order but I also fell in love with this Assemblage too. Made from 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier with a very low dosage, so it’s got richness, but it is quite dry. Floral, aromatics of creamy lemon curd and bread baking. Mouth filling and it finishes with a flirty little snap.
