Franck Givaudin 2022 Irancy, Bourgogne
If you ever find yourself in Burgundy and you have a little free time, grab a bottle of wine, some bread and cheese and head to Irancy, a tiny, stunningly beautiful village just a short drive west of Chablis. Where Chablis is known for its crisp, fiercely nervy white wines made from Chardonnay, Irancy is known for making lighter bodied, crisp, earthy, mineral driven, and red cherry hinting reds wines exclusively from Pinot Noir. Or, rather than bring wine, grab a couple glasses and head into Irancy for a bottle before heading to the slightly elevated lookout point where you can overlook the most amazingly charming little village. Breathtaking, not unlike this crazy-value stunner from Franck Givaudin. All organic, grown in similar soils as Chablis, so there is that limestone, slightly chalky flavor, but it was the delicate flowers that made Kevin, Jessica and I stare at one another like we just got doing something naughty. When we heard the price, we knew we were indeed doing wrong, but oh-so-right. I ordered 3 cases on the spot, Kevin insisted I order 5 instead. Yeah, this wine is THAT good.
