California’s Magnificent Red Blends
“I love red blends!” But which style? There are three main templates for red blends in California. The first is inspired by the Cab/Merlot/Cab Franc blends of Bordeaux (Meritage, anyone?). The second style is the Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre (GSM) blends inspired by the southern Rhône Valley and the south of France. The third style is the creative one, call them kitchen-sink blends, non-conformist, original. We’ll sample all three kinds today!
