A Night with Miles Garrett
May 30th we're hosting a special tasting featuring Miles Garrett Wines with the person themselves, Miles Garrett. It always surprises me that our tastings with Owners and Winemakers don’t fully sell out. This is like getting to meet Willy Wonka without the risk of getting turned into a blueberry or becoming so small you can fit onto a 15” TV screen. It’s like meeting The Wizard of OZ but behind the curtain, instead of finding just a run of the mill individual acting as the grand powerful wizard, you actually get to meet a wizard who makes magic in a bottle.
Located in the Willow Creek AVA, one of the first AVAs in California, Miles Garrett and his wife Carla are picture-perfect examples of regenerative farming. Their certified organic grapes are farmed on land that the Garretts lay cover crops over during the winter, and they allow their farm animals to graze at certain times of the year. The microclimate in Humboldt County allows the Garretts to grow both grapes and olives on their property, giving them a climate similar to what you’d find in Umbria, Italy.
The Garretts farm from two vineyards: their own, Peach Tree Lane, and a neighbor's vineyard called Dragon Field. Now, while the Garretts don't claim Dragon Field Vineyard as their own, Miles and Carla are the ones who do the majority of the caretaking of the vineyard since their neighbor is getting up there in age.
Miles has more than 20 years of experience in the wine world, and now that he has his own winery, he is making clean, grape- and terroir-driven wines that harken back to what California wines were before commercialization became the goal. If you make your reservation online or via phone, you will get to try these eight wines that highlight the microclimate of Willow Creek AVA and the craftsmanship and wizardry of Miles Garrett.
