AUGUST'S SPIRIT OF THE MONTH--MOMMENPOP RUBY GRAPEFRUIT APERITIF
August’s Spirit of the Month is Mommenpop’s Ruby Grapefruit Aperitif. Started by Samantha Sheehan, a winemaker who was looking for a different flavor profile, Mommenpop Aperitifs are made with grapes and fruit grown in California. Customers of the store were introduced to the Ruby Grapefruit when we hosted our first ever Vermouth tasting back in March and it has been a staple in my fridge ever since. As someone who loves Palomas, having this handy I can make a riff of a Manhattan substituting Whiskey for Tequila and a Red Vermouth with Mommenpop’s Ruby Grapefruit. It could also be used to make a Spritz by just adding club soda or Sparkling Wine depending on your desired ABV for your drink, you can also enjoy it on its own with some ice. With this warm weather, it’s nice to have something refreshing you can just go to, and this Aperitif/Vermouth is that.
Pinot Noir rose wine based with Star Ruby grapefruit, orris root, vanilla bean and green cardamom, the grapefruit flavor is bright up front. Softer notes of cherry and hints of lemon and depth and keep the freshness of the spirit going. Slightly bitter grapefruit on the finish dries the palate and allows for tons of options if putting into a cocktail.
