Cazcanes Tequila- Time to jump on the bandwagon.
Cazcanes Tequila has taken the Tequila world by storm. I saw a lot of talk about it online in 2023 but hadn’t had a chance to try it until earlier this year. I was blown away by the quality of their libations and once I learned about their process and practices, I was even more impressed with Cazcanes. Only using Agaves that are grown in volcanic soil from the lowland, Cazcanes gets their water from the Navichi springs, which is runoff from rain and snow from the San Pedro de los Landeros Mountains. After being cooked and crushed, the agave juice is fermented with natural wild yeast and distilled in alembic stills.
When you look at the lineup of Cazcanes standard skus, you will notice that there are 3 different Blancos, a Reposado and an Anejo. While the Blancos are all made in the same way, the difference is the proof they are bottled at. Cazcanes has given you the choice of how you want to drink your Blanco Tequila. With most people being fans of the standard 40% abv, there are also Blanco drinkers who are fans of still strength because it is the purest form since there is no water added after distillation to lower the proof. We currently have two special releasez from Cazcanes, their Rosa Blanco and their Rosa Reposado, which are made with their 50% abv Tequila.
With Tequila being such a popular spirit now, it’s really the little things that separate a great distillery from a good one. Being additive free, giving customers options of proof preference (in their Blanco for now at least), their aging techniques for their limited releases and even their name, which comes from the last known Indigenous tribe to be conquered by Spain, makes Cazcanes stand out from others.
Cazcanes Tequila N0. 07 Blanco- Creamy mouthfeel up front gives you an idea of vanilla. Vibrant grassy/vegetal flavors dry the mid-palate. Soft apple and stone fruit on the finish.
Cazcanes Tequila No. 09 Blanco- After tasting this, you wouldn’t expect it to be 100 proof. Big caramelized flavors here like you get from tasting freshly cooked agave. Soft coco, light crème brulee flavors with hints of vegetal.
Cazcanes Tequila No. 10 Blanco- A savory introduction with grassy and white pepper flavors. Delicate notes of vanilla lead to tropical fruit. More vanilla bean on the finish.
Cazcanes Tequila No. 07 Reposado- Aged up to 11 months in multiple types of oak. Soft crème brulee flavors up front give it a little sweetness. Vibrant combination of baking spices and charred oak cut through any sweetness.
Cazcanes Tequila No. 07 Anejo- Aged around 30 months in barrel. Soft peach and hints of mango create an approachable introduction. Delicate notes of vanilla bean and baking spice add depth to the finish.
Cazcanes Rosa Blanco- A still strength Blanco that was aged for 31 days in Napa Cabernet barrels. Rich notes of chocolate covered cherries coat your palate. Soft peppery flavors give you the Agave feeling. More dark fruit on the finish.
Cazcanes Rosa Reposado- Cazcanes takes their Number 9 Blanco and ages it for 82 days in Napa Valley Cabernet barrels. Rich notes of coco nibs coat the palate. Vibrant oak spice cuts through the richness and adds a savory component. You still get to taste the agave with delicate notes of white pepper, which leads to more coco creating a "sweet" finish.
