January's Spirit of the Month - Flor De Azar Triple Sec

January's Spirit of the Month is Flor De Azar Triple Sec. Made by Maestra Destiladora Hillhamn Salome at the woman-owned and operated distillery Flor de Luna. 10 botanicals are used in the barley, corn, and rye-based spirit liqueur. The flavor profile is bright with lots of candied citrus flavors and just a hint of spice too. The coating mouthfeel creates a texture that is very unique for Triple Sec and the depth of flavor also lets you know this is not your common mixer.

Flor De Azar Triple Sec

As she was working in a bar in Mexico City, Hillhamn took a vacation to New York and found a book about distillation. She became infatuated with learning how every type of spirit was made, which led to her establishing Flor de Luna in 2015, the first woman-owned and operated distillery in Mexico City. Including herself, the Flor de Luna team is 5 women strong. The name, Flor de Luna, comes from the fragrant and mysterious moon flowers that are found in the Chiapas and Yucatan Peninsula. While the Xila Licor is the better known product made by Flor de Luna, their Triple Sec should not be slept on! It's one that can be enjoyed on its own, or just a little club soda and maybe some bitters.
