January's Wine of the Month - Le Loup Dans la Bergerie 2022 Rouge

“On ne change pas une equipe qui gagne”

A French term that translates to, “You don’t change a team that’s winning” which is exactly what I was thinking when we were searching for our January Wine of the Month selection, and we found ourselves with yet another little French red blend. “Do you think it is too similar to the last couple features?” we wondered, but quickly reminded ourselves that the past few red blend features from France have been happily gobbled up by our savvy customers, so why stop giving them what the so obviously love? Seems like a self-defeating, and sort of mean thing to do right? So here we are, swooning over another Grenache based French red that screams of freshness and terroir.

Jean Orliac first arrived in Languedoc to climb the famed mountain, Pic Saint Loup and instantly fell for the rugged evergreen terrain in the 70s, and he and his wife finally reached their dream and bottled their first wine in 1990. Their focus, making wines that express the region’s unique terroir and at prices that made everyday drinking possible. The second you taste this playful and agreeable red you will see; they succeeded, and even over kicked their coverage as it were.

80% Grenache, 20% Syrah and aged in all stainless steel this red is lighter to medium bodied, has full energy, red fruit, dried Provencal herbs, bits of cracked pepper and a finish that vibrates with, “come take another sip”. Such a charming and easy wine to pair with everything from hearty fish dishes to grilled meat and vegetables. Le Loup Dans la Bergerie 2022 Rouge is a soft and utterly pleasurable way to start the New Year.
