July's Spirit of the Month - Nosotros Blanco Tequila

The story of Nosotros starts when Carlos Soto, a Costa Rican native, was in college working on a business proposal for a class. What started as words on paper for a grade became real life in 2017 when Nosotros Blanco Tequila was released and started winning awards at some of the top spirits competitions in the country. Highland agave up front, lowland agave in the back. Soft coating mouthfeel leads to stone fruit and hints of pepper. Delicate earthy tones on the finish along with cocoa.

What I really admire about this young brand is their ability to look at the big picture. And what I mean by that is Carlos and his business partner, Michael Arbanas, pay attention to where they get their agaves, how the land is treated, what distillery they work with, how they procure their bottles and what foundations they support. Using a 50/50 blend of Highland and Lowland Agaves allows Nosotros to not only get a great balance of flavor in their finished products, but it also allows them to practice crop rotation in the fields. By focusing on multiple regions for their Agave no one singular field needs to take the brunt of the burden of producing Agave. By rotating crops, the land is able to stay healthy and produce healthy Agave. Nosotros is made at Destiladora del Valle (NOM 1438), a female-owned and -operated distillery, and every bottle of Nosotros is made from 100% recycled glass. In the past they have donated to Waves for Water and now work with EcoDrive and Toucan Rescue Ranch.
