November's Wine of the Month - Pop's Wine Red Wine Blend
November’s Wine of the Month is Pop’s Wine Red Wine Blend. Consisting of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Viognier, this wine just screamed “Fall-season meals” to the staff. Rich dark fruit gives the wine a brambly flavor profile, while light notes of tomato and tobacco leaves create a savory component that also serves as the tannins. Baking spices, bright floral characteristics, and more dark fruit, figs, and dark berries on the finish make you want to pair this wine with mashed potatoes, stuffing, canned cranberries, and everything else found on the dinner table in November. It’s not often that I taste a wine and think “This smells like a season,” but after smelling and tasting this wine, all I could think of was “this is Fall.”
The Pop’s label was made by winemaker Woody and his friends. The name is in honor of Woody’s grandpa, who planted vines in multiple sites across Sonoma County back in the 1970s. The vineyards are certified organic, and all grapes are hand-harvested. Thanks to the volcanic soils the vines are grown in, the grapes have a great minerality-driven backbone. The wine for Pop’s was fermented in stainless steel with native yeast and rested in stainless steel before bottling. This is a very food-friendly wine that can be paired with more than just your Fall foods — it also pairs beautifully with burgers, pizza, grilled meats, and cheeseboards.
