October's Spirit of the Month - Kuleana Rum Nanea
October’s Spirit of the Month is Kuleana Rum Nanea. Made from 3 sourced molasses rums which were aged 4 years on the Kuleana Estate. Vibrant baking spices pop onto the palate and are paired with notes of toasted toffee and vanilla bean. Soft dark cocoa adds to the aged rum’s profile along with subtle Agricole vegetal characteristics. Founded in 2017, Kuleana rum is a brand made by Native Hawaiians with the goal of highlighting the richness of Hawaii. Growing 35 variants of heirloom sugar cane, Kuleana’s focus is making the truest form of rum, meaning they add zero sweeteners, flavors or coloring to their libations.
With rum being the wild west when it comes to regulations of what can be added, it’s nice to know a brand like Kuleana (and a few others you can find on our shelves) is staying true to what made rum popular. In a pirate town like Long Beach and fall right around the corner, it just feels fitting to highlight Kuleana’s Nanea. Kuleana really lives in the mindset Hawaii First when it comes to everything they do. That includes giving back to those on the islands that have suffered recently.
Part of the proceeds from all Kuleana Sales are going towards projects at the Hawai'i Community Foundation, including The Maui Strong Fund which is helping those who were affected by the Maui Wildfires. Showing that they aren't only in Hawaii to grow sugarcane, Kuleana is there to help Hawaii grow strong as well.
