September's Spirit of the Month - Brucato’s Oro y Fierro Kumquat Liqueur
September’s Spirit of the Month is Brucato’s Oro y Fierro kumquat liqueur. The base spirit is unaged grape brandy with Nagami kumquats and California naval orange peels. Very aromatic, Candied orange, a little tartness and a little sweetness. Could be a good replacement for triple sec or Cointreau. That vibrant tartness, that subtle sweetness gives this liqueur a real fresh tasting kumquat profile that reminds me of my childhood.
Growing up going to my Great Aunt Barbara’s house, I could be found in her backyard plucking and eating kumquats from the tree/bush she had there. I was always a fan of sour candies, so finding a fruit that hit my sweet spot was a real treat. When I tried the Oro y Fierro, I was pushed back to the memory of being in that backyard and almost eating myself sick. Besides just a margarita, I can see this liqueur being used in a spritz, a negroni or even just with club soda. This is going to be a hot September, so having something refreshing like this liqueur can come in clutch with beating the heat!
