Description

Cellers Can Blau winery was founded in 2003 as a project of the Gil Family, whose headquarters are in Jumilla in southeastern Spain. The Can Blau winery is located in the Denomination of Origin of Montsant in northern Catalonia Spain, adjacent to its famous neighbor, Priorat - it was this wine that helped put Montsant on the map. Like Priiorat, Montsant soils are llicorella, which is a granite and slate composite. The altitude here is very high, and the name Montsant means 'Holy Mountain.' The best vineyards are located on terraced, steep slopes, often sharing space with olive, pine and almond trees. The region has earned a reputation for its red wines.

The Gil Family along with winemaker Victor Rodriguez operate the winery. Can Blau is a blend of 40% Carignan, 40% Syrah, and 20% Grenache. The Grenache grapes are grown on llicorella soils, Carignan on clay soils, and the Syrah on limestone. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Intense on the nose and palate with lavender, spices, incense and dark fruits of black cherries and plums. Full in body and dense with fine grained and firm tannins and a long finish.  Pair with red meats, game, roast pork dishes.
