Christophe Pichon 2023 Viognier, Rhone
Christophe Pichon comes from a line of northern Rhone winemakers and in 1991, after oenology school, and working at his father’s domaine Christophe set out on his own. Over the years he has continued to purchase more vines, eventually even buying his father’s estate, and that was when his sons came on board to help with the day to day operations, and for one son, some new and exciting experimental aging practices. We look forward to seeing what he comes up with but in the meantime, we are loving this super-value Viognier. You get that telltale explosive floral note that Viognier is beloved for, along with some more citrus, tangerine and quince sprinkled with a little lime zest. Fuller in the mouth but with fantastic acidity, this is a wine for fully flavored dishes, Asian foods come to mind, but it is also big enough for gooey cheese, pates and cured meat. You would pay twice this, easily, in the new world.
