David Duband 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy
The Duband estate began selling wine in 1991, which makes it a relative newcomer in terms of Burgundy. David farms his wines Organically and has quickly become a rock star in Burgundy, now finding his wines in 16 of the 25 Michelin three stared restaurants in France. David’s wines are both powerful and supple at the same time and we are mad for them, though we can only get bottles of this and that, once a year. The 2021 Gevrey Chambertin is an aromatic joyride. Bursting with black cherries, smoke, flowers and damp earth. The 30% new oak gives the wine a sexy mouthfeel, and familiar vanilla note. Still truly Burgundian, but with a touch more saturation. Soft tannin and acidity make this a wine you can drink younger, especially with a quick decant. VERY allocated.
