Domaine Paul Janin 2022 Moulin-A-Vent "Empreinte", Beaujolais
The Janin family began growing vines in 1918 but they sold the fruit and were also doing cooperage. 1937 brought about another generation came along, fell even more with winemaking and they bought more vines and then in 1952 the winery was established and they began bottling their own wines. Here we are in 2023 and the daughter of Eric Janin joined the estate and they make the wines together. Empereinte means basically imprint and they is a tribute to the imprint of the wines over the years, and to the family that has added more of an imprint to the wines they sell. This is simply one of the most gorgeously aromatic Beaujolais I have had the pleasure to smell. Purity. A solid core of fresh, but dense Gamay. Silky in the mouth with fantastic texture and a long finish. Only able to get one case.
