Florio 2019 Vecchioflorio Sweet Marsala Superiore, Sicily
Marsala is a sweet or dry fortified wine (18% ABV) grown and produced near the western coast of Sicily within the province of Trapani. The grapes used to make this bottling are Grillo and Cataratto, both white varieties.
Florio Vecchioflorio sweet Marsala Superiore is aged in oak barrels for at least 24 months. It combines hints of vanilla and raisins, which are typical of Marsala wine, with notes of fresh fruit and caramel.
When well made, this sweet version makes a terrific aperitif or a captivating dessert digestif. Valuable in cooking, particularly in sweeter-sauced versions of chicken and veal Marsala and the classic Sicilian dessert Sabayon.
Serve chilled for an aperitif, room temperature for dessert. As an aperitif, it goes well with medium-aged cheeses. Ideal with desserts, the scent of vanilla and licorice makes it a wonderful accompaniment.
If stored in a cool, dark place, the wine has practically no time limit.
