Henriet-Bazin N.V. Grand Cru Rose Champagne
I "discovered" this complex Grand Cru Rose while hunting around the sparkling wine department of another local wine shop. Intrigued at first by the label but even more so once I saw it was being brought in from a long-time favorite importer, Charles Neal. I grabbed a bottle on put in the fridge as soon as I got home, bubble nerd that I am. The domine formed when there was a marriage of an Henriet, winemaker, to a Bazin, grape grower and the rest is history. Made from 50/50 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this deeply colored Rose is a lovely blend of dark fruit and deeply roasted stone fruits. Rather full in the mouth with a firm bead of bubbles and even a little bite on the finish. Meaty, in that fun way. Think cured meats, cheeses, duck, cold sliced roast beef.
