Hure Freres 2014 "4V" Champagne Extra Brut Pinot Meunier
The 4V line from the brother Hure is a concept that has gotten pretty popular among young grower Champagne producers. The 4 elements are, one variety, one vineyard, one vintage and one vision. It is a way for them to show how each variety expresses itself in very specific soils. Really cool idea that is also quite educational as well as freaking delicious. This is all organically farmed, hand picked and sorted. The vines for this Pinot Meunier are an average age of 54 years and all come from the La Grosse Pierre vineyard. Lots of dried herbs and flowers on the nose with a big blast of caramelized citrus and darker red fruit. Plump and sturdy on the palate, seems to move like an octopus does, spreads out then pulls back in again. Very long and richer on the finish but richer with dried fruits which make this perfect for heartier foods. Only 125 cases made.
