Marchand-Tawse 2020 Coteaux Bourguignons Gamay
This wine is one of the coolest lessons in terroir we have in the store right now. Made from 100% Gamay, but grown in two, very prestigious villages in Burgundy, Flagey-Echezaux and Vosne-Romanee, and from vineyards that are 40 and 70 years old. The vineyard owners could easily rip out their little Gamay vines, plant Pinot Noir and make a TON more money but, there is a honor for them to have their specific terroirs reflect in a much more humble grape, Gamay. We are in love with this wine for the fact that you taste and smell Gamay but it is unmistakably Cote de Nuits. A humble grape grown in truly noble vineyards make for a very cool Burgundian wine experience. Gobs of blue fruit, tangy red fruit and bushels of plumeria nestled into a nice soft body and a finish that gives more juicy fruit, but speckled with black pepper. Just do it, trust me.
