Nathalie Richez 2021 Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes De Beaune "La Justice", Burgundy
Nathalie Richez began her winery in 2011 by acquiring tiny plots in appellations that were a little more affordable and from there she grew her tiny production winery. She uses no chemicals but does not certify organic, she needs the flexibility if the vintage calls for extreme measures. Nathalie, unlike so many others in Burgundy, does not come from a winemaking family, but you would never know that to taste her wines. They are soulful in a way that evokes history. La Justice is a blend of two plots, one with vines 25 years old, the other 60 year old vines, the two together giving playful energy, and beautiful complex layering of flavor. Getting tart red cherries, roasted coffee, no green notes whatsoever and since there is no new oak used to make the wine there is an exuberance and energy that encourages you back to the glass. Drinking beautifully now and has 10 years.
