Nicole Chanrion 2023 Cote de Brouilly, Beaujolais

This domaine was founded in 1861 and is now in its 6^th generation with Nicole Chanrion. Nicole always wanted to be a winemaker for the family estate and at the time, in the 1970s, her own mother thought winemaking was a man’s job, so she worked in labs and helped her father, but it wasn’t until 1988 that she was finally able to take over. The Gamay for this Cote-de-Brouilly comes from vines that are over 50 years old, and you can tell by the sheer power of this Beaujolais. Plump with bursting purple fruit and fresh smashed wild strawberries, along with flint, some cracked pepper and just a touch of pomegranate. This is a wine sturdy enough for a wide array of foods due to its freshness and softer tannic structure.
