Sandro Fay 2020 'Costa Bassa' Valtellina Superiore Valgella, Lombardy

Valtellina is one of the only wine regions outside of Piedmont that produces Nebbiolo wines.  Located in the northernmost regions of Lombardy, producers grow the Nebbiolo grapes on the steep south facing slopes of the hills at the base of the Swiss Alps where they get maximum sun exposure.  Nebbiolo wines from this northern region are brighter and more delicate than their cousins in southern Piedmont.   With its ruby color and complex aromas of red fruit, spices, and a hint of earthiness, this wine embodies the traditional character of Valtellina. On the palate, the wine reveals a graceful balance of acidity, tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
