Alsace is one of the few regions in France where the grape variety is almost always prominent on the label, that is with a few exceptions, like Edlezwicker. This is a blend that can, and does change by vintage. A Kermit Lynch import.
Description
There is a tradition in Alsace of blending Alsatian white varieties together to create more affordable, interesting table wines. Meyer-Fonné calls theirs “Gentil”, while Albert Boxler uses the regional generic term “Edelzwicker” (German for “noble blend”). Boxler’s Edelzwicker Reserve is a gorgeous wine, as versatile at the table as most any other. It isn’t flashy, but leaning more to that of Pinot Gris. A luxurious texture is bolstered by the proper amount of acidity, making a wine that is deftly structured leaving a lasting taste of minerality. This is the kind of dry table wine that can serve as an all-purpose white wine at home. Beautifully done.
The Wine Country.
