Meet Joel Burt, Winemaker from Las Jaras Wines

Join us on April 12th for our Friday night eventwhere we will tasting Las Jaras Wines with special guest Joel Burt, the Winemaker for Las Jaras. You may not know Joel Burt by name yet, but if you've shopped for low-intervention wines in our store over the last four years, you've tried, or at least seen, some of his popular creations. Glou Glou, Sweet Berry Wine and Superbloom can be found on our shelves regularly. It is always a treat to have a Winemaker in store, and as the Natural Wine Buyer, I am always excited to get to ask questions to a forward thinking producer.

I was able to attend a lunch last summer at Otus Thai and got to meet Joel and his business partner Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, funny Little Caesar advertisements and more). What I really enjoyed about meeting both of them was that you could tell they started Las Jaras for the passion of making good wine and not just getting in while a category was popular. While Eric would be considered "the face" of Las Jaras, he knows who butters his bread, so he let Joel take the main stage when it came to talking about the wines we were tasting. And when Eric did speak, all he had was praise for the work Joel does when it comes to making the wines they produce.

Joel works with 6 different vineyards in California to make his line of wines. And they have become popular not only in the world of Natural Wine drinkers, but for all those who enjoy fermented grape juice.  And if you join us on the 12th you get to try Las Jaras' Superbloom, Rosato, Old Vine Rose, Slippers Nouveau Old Vines, Glou Glou, Sweet Berry Wine and all three expressions from their Waves line. Being able to ask a Winemaker questions directly is a unique experience and not one that should be missed if you are a fan of wine. As talented and knowledgeable as any of us working at The Wine Country are, we don't have the insight or expertise that people like Joel have. So don't miss out on your chance to learn something cool, while enjoying wines that are awesome.
