Aperture 2022 Chenin Blanc, Clarksburg
This is Chenin made with intention—not nostalgia.
Jesse Katz found himself drawn to old-vine Chenin in Clarksburg, where the Delta breeze cools the vineyard by night and the silty clay loam holds just enough water to sharpen rather than soften. It’s a site that asks for precision, not indulgence.
In the glass, it breezes in on kumquat, kiwi, and white peach, dusted lightly with gravel and grounded in a thread of mineral clarity . The palate stays focused—bright, balanced, framed in a slow hang time that lets natural acidity lead, not age through heavy intervention.
Critics like Wine Advocate saw it, too—93 points for a wine that feels “pretty, with Goldilocks ripeness” but never indulgent.
Every detail—from the night-harvested grapes to the mix of stainless, cement, and neutral oak—serves clarity. This isn’t Chenin for nostalgia. It’s Chenin that demands your attention.
