Blue Rock Vineyard 2022 "Baby Blue" Red Blend, Sonoma County

The Blue Rock 2022 “Baby Blue” Red Blend doesn’t shout on entry—it settles into the glass with a dark velvet presence. Initial aromas drift in as blackberry compote and milk chocolate, creased with graphite and a hint of black pepper. Behind them, cedar and tilled earth rustle the sense of place, not perfume. 

On the palate, the blend grows in grace and tension. Rich red and black fruit unrolls into plush, supportive tannins that curl around rather than grab. Spice—namely cinnamon and a whisper of clove—lingers in the background, layering rather than leading. It’s a wine built with balance, not breadth. 

The blend is a precise formula—Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, joined by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec in small parts—crafted for structure without complexity for its own sake.  Wine Enthusiast praised the 2022 for its “rich, grippy tannins” and flavors of “berry liqueur, cocoa, and purple flowers,” noting it rewards time in cellar.
