Ca'del Bosco N.V. Franciacorta Cuvee Prestige "48a Edizone", Lombardy, Italy

Ca’ del Bosco has been producing fine bubbies in northern Italy’s Franciacorta for over 30 years.  We were quite smitten by the last Edizione, an accomplished sparkler which offered complex aromas and flavors and became an expert, attractive and deft bubbly.  This latest offering is composed of 80.5% Chardonnay, 1.5% Pinot Blanc and 18% Pinot Noir all grown in neighboring municipalities.  88% of the blend is from the 2023 vintage, with 12% of the blend made up of reserve wine from the previous three vintages.  It then ages on the lees for at least two years.  Made in an “extra Brut” style with no added sulfites.  Wine Spectator says, “Vibrant, with a lovely mesh of white peach, black cherry, toast, tangerine pith, plus dried thyme and white blossoms. Harmonious, with a fine, lively mousse and a waft of minerality on the finish.”
