Chateau Chauvet 2020 Bordeaux Superieur--JANUARY'S WINE OF THE MONTH
In January, our thoughts turn to red wine. As I’m writing this, the weather is blustery and I’m chilled to the bone. Red seems right.
And when that red is from a classic appellation from the most famous red wine region in the world, red Bordeaux just seems more satisfying to drink. Lucky for us, we discovered a super-affordable version that we think will appeal to a lot of our customers. The Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon blend is so drinkable and fun, we jumped on it as soon as our supplier said we could.
And we’re not alone praising this wine. Decanter Magazine wrote “Heady, spiced black fruit aromas lead on to a palate of blackcurrant, clove, red pepper and sleek, polished tannins.”
Veteran wine critic James Suckling went further: “Blackberries, plums and some vanilla and coffee on the nose. This is nicely defined on the palate, showing juicy and fine-grained tannins and a nice, creamy finish. Good length here. An overachiever for Bordeaux Superieur.” Not a bad endorsement.
The winery itself describes its creation: “A brilliant wine of deep red color, with a wide range of red and black fruit aromas on the palate. Velvety and ripe, but above all that pivots on its expression of fruit. The palate is incredibly pure, with bouquets of violets and black fruits, giving a beautiful roundness and intensity on the finish.”
Try this wine with any red meat and it’s especially good with mild cheeses.
