Clos St. Magdeleine 2024 Cassis Rouge, Provence
When I visited this beautiful estate right on the Mediterranean in 2025, I encountered the Cassis Rouge for the first time. It’s a unicorn; just 3% of all wine produced in Cassis is red. This wine, a blend of Grenache, Cinsaut and Mourvedre, is produced from a single plot located on the slopes of Cap Canaille, facing the sea, on a sloping clay-limestone soil. Entirely harvested and vinified in the Clos Sainte Magdeleine cellar just outside the village of Cassis, it marks the return of red wines to the estate. It expresses characteristic notes of small red fruits and offers a complex aromatic profile and a silky texture; it is supported by fine but well-defined tannins. Its length and tannic structure make it a perfect accompaniment to a meal featuring veal or roasted red meats. It can be cellared for several years.
