A juicy, ripe Chateauneuf-du-Pape that provides a lot of enjoyment for its cost. Loads of fruit.
Description
The estate was founded in 1955, and today the Versinos are branching out beyond Chateauneuf-du-Pape, making creative wines outside the appellation. But this classic red is their benchmark. Jean and Jean-Paul Versino make this Chateauneuf primarily from Grenache (65%), with 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and the other 10 approved varieties making up the final 5% of the blend. The result is a juicy, ripe wine (the label says 15% alcohol, but I detected hardly any heat on the tongue) loaded with fruit. Good value here.
The Wine Country.
